  jodi fisher wins moomba masters

Jodi Fisher regained his Moomba Masters slalom title on the Yarra River in the heart of Melbourne (AUS), proving once again his skill in mastering the constantly changing conditions.

Fisher came in ahead of Aaron Larkin (NZL) and Marcus Brown (USA) beating their score of 4 buoys on the 11.25 metre line by one buoy. Last skier off the dock, the world record holder American Chris Parrish, could not complete the 12m pass to ensure Fisher’s score took the title.

Fisher’s compatriot Sarah Green also made it on to the podium in women’s slalom finishing behind Karen Truelove’s (USA) 1.50 buoys on 11.25m, but ahead of American Jill Knutson. The success of British Water Ski’s UK Sport and Sport England backed squads Open skiers came after Junior squad member Alex Anthony won the overall at the Junior Moomba. British skiers have always fared well on the waters of Melbourne’s Yarra River and Fisher’s and Green’s success continues this tradition. This being a World Championship year they will be looking to keep on the podium throughout the season at the sport’s major events. 2004 saw a British skier on the podium, many times the top step at every major event and in 2005 they furthered this by crowning Will Asher as World Champion as well as continuing the podium places throughout 2006 with Fisher and Green wining the World Cup series.

The next major event is the US Masters in May where again the squad has a long list of qualified skiers who will be challenging for the titles.
