british water skiers end season in winning form

The UK Sport, Sport England and Fat Face backed British Water Ski Team ended the 2008 season in fine form.

Jodi Fisher won the 2008 World Cup, retaining his title from 2007, after his slalom performances in the concluding rounds of the 2008 World Cup season in Malaysia and Doha. These events also wrapped up the 2008 International Water Ski Federation (IWSF) rankings with Will Asher topping both the Elite and Performance based lists, also producing the best score by a skier anywhere in the World in 2008 with 1 buoy on the 9.75m slalom line. These achievements follow on from the team’s most successful European Championships to date where Sarah Green and Will Asher took the slalom titles (Nicole Arthur backing up Sarah’s title with the silver), Jason Seels the Overall title and then Seels, Tom Asher and Damien Sharman making it a clean sweep of the jump podium without letting any other nation get a look in for the second year running.

The sport also finished the season with a World Champion at every competitive age category, Nicole Arthur having added the World Under 21 title to her World Open gold. As a result the British Water Ski team has pre-qualified more skiers than ever before for the biennial World Championships, to be held in 2009 in Calgary, Canada where Arthur will be defending her title and British skiers will be amongst the medal favourites.
