british cable wakeboard team dominate world championships

British Water Ski’s Sport England funded Excel squad member Nick Davies won the men’s World Cable Wakeboard Championships in Neubrandenberg, Germany last weekend.

With an uncharacteristic fall on a 900 degree spin on the last kicker in his first round run, to only place third, Davies was under pressure for his second run. The second run was delivered with panache though to take the gold with a score of 74 points, with Israel’s Lior Sofer winning silver on 71.67 points and Dominik Guhrs (GER) scoring 69.33 points for bronze.

The British team were the dominant factor in the Open Men’s category with five riders in the eight man final, with TASS funded riders James Young and Christian Koester being joined by Gareth Stelfox and Lewis Cornwall. Davies had been seeking to match the achievements of his team members in the event up to that point. TASS funded rider Kirsteen Mitchell had been impressive from the outset in the Ladies final to become World Champion and the previous day Chloe Goudie and Daniel Grant had already taken the Girls and Boys World titles, proving that the British team has plenty of talent in the pipeline. Four other British riders also stepped on the podium with a silver medal from Scott Rosewell and bronze medals from Freddie Carter, Liam Peacock and Larry Donaghey in their respective age categories. Having taken the main titles of the event the British also took the gold medal in the team event to cap a superb competition.
